Tarpana

Tarpana is an Ayurvedic eye treatment that involves nourishing and rejuvenating the eyes using a specialized procedure. The word “Tarpana” comes from the Sanskrit term “Tarpan,” which means “to nourish” or “to satisfy.”

During the Tarpana treatment, the eyes are bathed and immersed in a pool of medicated ghee (clarified butter) or herbal oils. A well-like structure made of black gram dough is created around the eyes to hold the liquid. The ghee or oil is then poured gently and continuously over the eyes for a specific duration, allowing the eyes to bathe in the healing properties of the medicated liquid.

The benefits of Tarpana include:

  1. Eye nourishment: The medicated ghee or oil provides nourishment to the eyes and surrounding tissues, promoting eye health.
  2. Dry eye relief: Tarpana is beneficial for individuals suffering from dry eyes or eye strain.
  3. Eye lubrication: The treatment helps lubricate and soothe the eyes, reducing irritation and discomfort.
  4. Vision improvement: Tarpana is believed to help improve vision and clarity of sight.
  5. Relaxation: The treatment has a calming and relaxing effect on the eyes and the nervous system.

Tarpana is commonly used to address various eye conditions, such as dry eyes, eye strain, eye fatigue, and certain degenerative eye diseases. It is also often recommended as a preventive measure to maintain eye health and improve vision.

The duration and frequency of Tarpana treatment may vary depending on the individual’s eye condition and specific needs. It is essential to have Tarpana performed by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner who can determine the appropriate medicated ghee or oil to use and customize the treatment according to an individual’s Dosha constitution and eye condition.

Tarpana is generally considered safe and well-tolerated, but as with any Ayurvedic therapy, it’s essential to seek professional advice and undergo the treatment under the guidance of a trained Ayurvedic therapist.
